Aprilia Riders Reflect on Race 2

Monday, 20 June 2016 13:17 GMT

P5 and P13 for another double points finish

After a disappointing Race 1 for rookie Lorenzo Savadori that saw the Aprilia rider get caught up at the start and lowside, a good haul of points followed in Race 2 as the young Italian crossed the line in what has become a customary top 5 in his impressive first year. San Marinese teammate Alex De Angelis struggled more at Misano but still collected two points finishes, in P12 and P13 respectively, coming from the back after a technical issue had hindered his qualifying.

Savadori fought it out in a packed midfield of Nicky Hayden, Jordti Torres and Alex Lowes, crossing the line in the lead of the group. De Angelis had a great start to the Race to move up move than ten positions, then found himself slip back slightly with grip issues.

"It was a good race for us this one,” said Savadori. “The only shame is about the crash of yesterday. Today we had the pace of the leaders but the crash of Davies makes us lose the contact of Fores with our group. I'm still happy that I managed to bring home a fifth place which is good for me, for Iodaracing and for Aprilia guys too. This weekend went better end better, a pity only for the fall in Race 1. It gives me pleasure to be in the top five, the goal is to stay there for as long as possible to keep improving. The next race will be on a track that I have never seen, in America at Laguna Seca, I will try to learn it quickly.”

"After yesterday's one mine was clearly another good race,” added De Angelis. “It helped a lot to make a good start, but what is more important is that the set-up today allowed me to be faster. The problem today has been around the middle of the race when the tyre started to drop of grip and this has resulted in an excessive nervousness of the bike and that's why I lost a couple of positions. In the test on Monday will try to understand how to keep this pace consistently so do better in the next races".

After the one day test at Misano World Circuit on Monday 20th June, the paddock will head for California to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for Round 9 of 2016 on the 8th-10th July, taking on the legendary Corkscrew.
